NADIA BRONSON
Nadia Bronson began an illustrious 25-year career at Universal Pictures as a publicist. She was promoted one position at a time culminating in her appointment as President of International Marketing, Distribution and Operations. Among her responsibilities was overseeing Universal’s interests in worldwide distribution powerhouse United International Pictures. During that time Nadia oversaw the international campaigns of hundreds of films with combined international box office surpassing four billion dollars, including many of the industry’s top grossing films of all-time (Jurassic Park, The Flintstones, Schindler’s List, Gladiator). As a multi-cultural European, she was ever aware of the uniqueness of each country, recognizing the need to tailor marketing campaigns for individual countries. For European releases, she would often move creative work to U.K. vendors over the L.A. based vendors used by most studios in order to best execute this strategy.
She was aware of the importance of the international market at a time when it still represented just a fraction of the worldwide box office. Consequently, Nadia fought to give international journalists equal opportunities to visit film sets, giving them access to actors, directors, writers and producers. She was one of the first studio executives to support the Hollywood Foreign Press Association at a time when their organization was less well known. Among the films she represented for their Golden Globe and Academy Award campaigns were the hugely successful Gladiator, Billy Elliot, Babe and Shakespeare in Love.
From early on, Bronson encouraged European film festivals to include big-budget motion pictures in their schedules alongside the independent films. She has supported the film festivals including Cannes, Venice, Berlin and London by bringing artists such as Robert Redford, Steven Spielberg, Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Martin Scorsese, Sharon Stone, John Travola, Tom Hanks, Kevin Costner and George Clooney. Recently Nadia helmed a massive star-studded red carpet premiere and press event at the Cannes Film Festival for Fox’s Snowflower & The Secret Fan. Her overwhelming belief in the potential of the international marketplace resulted in international successes that far outdistanced domestic and she was the first person to persuade her studio to open a film day-and- date worldwide with the extraordinary success of Daylight. These results helped give exhibitors justification to rebuild the cinema infrastructure in the U.K. and elsewhere leading to the current multiplex revolution.
